Tips For Recovering From Liposuction

If you’re anticipating a future liposuction, your doctor will be your best source for advice and tips on how to take care of yourself post-treatment and how much time you as an individual will require to fully heal. However, below are some helpful tips to keep in mind for the upcoming recovery process to make sure you’re as comfortable and prepared as possible:

Invest In A Bed Wedge

As you’re resting in your bed during your downtime, you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible and avoid putting pressure on those areas of your body that have been specifically targeted by the liposuction. You may want to look into either a memory foam bed wedge, a bed wedge pillow, a leg wedge pillow, or a pillow for supporting your back.

Avoid Sodium

Salt can make any swelling that you experience post liposuction worse so it’s best to avoid drinks and foods that contain salt while your body heals. Instead, focus on drinking plenty of water to keep swelling down and to keep your body well hydrated. Eating foods such as eggs, yogurt and lettuce can help reduce swelling and are great sources of Vitamin K.

Avoid Hot Water

As relaxing as a hot shower typically sounds, it’s important to avoid hot water, particularly hot showers, for at least a couple of weeks after your liposuction surgery. Steamy, hot water can not only make swelling worse, but the hot water streaming down on sensitive areas that have just experienced surgery isn’t going to be particularly comfortable.

Take Healthy Multi Vitamins

Your doctor can recommend some multi vitamins that you can take to help encourage healing after you’ve had liposuction. Taking these regularly while your body heals will help speed up the healing process and allow your body to perform to its full healing capacity. Some multi vitamins are specifically intended for surgical healing and provide the most effective nutrients for doing so.

Make Use of Compression Garments

Again, your doctor will probably send you home with the appropriate compression garments that will help keep you as comfortable as possible while you heal. Compression garments are essential for proper healing and come in various forms such as full body suits, shapewear, sports bras, girdles, athletic shorts and tights.
