Dr. Steven Margolis was born in Brooklyn, New York, and from an early age he knew he wanted to be a surgeon. At age 14 he began writing to Dr. Michael DeBakey after seeing him on a television talk show. He received letters back (which are now framed and hanging in his office waiting room) advising him on what to do as a young student to start the long process. Dr. Margolis received a scholarship to New York University as an undergraduate student followed by a scholarship to Columbia Medical School. In 1982 he left New York for the first time in his life to train in Boston for six years on the Harvard Surgical Service. There he met a nursing student named Rose who soon became his wife and the mother of their three children.

Dr. Margolis established The New England Vein and Laser Center in Concord, Massachusetts in 1996. Prior to this he was chief of surgery at Emerson Hospital specializing in cancer surgery for eight years. His change of practice occurred after learning about ambulatory phlebectomy, which allows a purely cosmetic procedure to remove the largest of varicose veins, all done in his office safely, using only local anesthesia. When he heard Dr. Jeffrey Klein lecture on Tumescent Liposuction, he saw many parallels in patient benefits with phlebectomy: no general anesthesia, no IV sedation, patient comfort during and after surgery, a quick return to normal activity without hospital use, and affordable costs. Overall, Dr. Margolis was most impressed with the safety of the procedure. Dr. Margolis made arrangements to be instructed by Dr. Klein and now enjoys the happiness of his patients when they see the results he has achieved.
