Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the United States. This is not a weight reduction procedure. It is a procedure that removes troublesome areas of fat on various parts of the body that cannot be achieved with diet and exercise.
Diet and exercise programs for some people are helpful in reducing fat effectively. For others, utilizing the latest techniques, the fat is removed by surgical suctioning through small strategically placed incisions. Once the fat cells are removed from these areas they do not come back. The remaining fat cells can enlarge after the surgery if weight is not controlled. Diet and exercise following this procedure is highly recommended to maintain your final result.
The most common areas treated are under the chin and jaw line, upper arms, abdomen, waist, back and flanks, hips, buttocks, thighs and knees. Liposuction of the abdomen, waist and flanks is commonly performed in men. There is minimal risk when this remarkable method of body contouring is performed by a skilled, experienced cosmetic surgeon in a healthy patient.
Ultrasonic liposuction is commonly used by Dr. Foster. This decreases the amount of bleeding and usually causes less tissue trauma.
The super wet technique is used for fluid management. The fluid has Lidocaine and epinephrine added to it to decrease the amount of bruising and pain.
Every attempt is made to achieve the ultimate cosmetic result while maintaining the patient’s safety.
This procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. The amount of time for the surgery depends on the number of areas suctioned and the amount of volume removed. This also depends on the medical condition of the patient.
Patients usually experience minimal to moderate discomfort for only a day or two following the procedure. A contour garment is worn for four weeks. Early exercise is recommended. Most of the swelling subsides within the first four weeks with the remainder over the next few months.
Patients are presentable within two weeks as the bruising and swelling decrease. The results are usually very dramatic, especially for those who have tried for years to reduce fatty areas with weight loss and exercise and have not been able to achieve their desired goals.
There is minimal risk when this remarkable method of body contouring is performed by a skilled, experienced cosmetic surgeon in a healthy patient.
SmartLipo
Liposuction technology has come a long way in recent years. It is now safer, more affordable, and more effective than ever. We are proud to provide the latest in liposuction technology: SmartLipo.
SmartLipo is a laser-assisted liposuction procedure. The laser allows for smaller incisions, pinpoint accuracy, less bruising, and a much quicker recovery time than traditional liposuction techniques. SmartLipo’s precision allows it to be used effectively on certain areas like the neck, face, back, and knees that traditional liposuction is not good for.
SmartLipo Procedure
Your SmartLipo procedure will begin with your initial consultation. During this appointment, you and Dr. Foster will discuss your liposuction goals and expectations. After a thorough examination and discussion, Dr. Foster will be able to put together a comprehensive treatment plan that is right for you.
Dr. Foster makes a small incision (one to two millimeters long) through which he will insert the pen-sized laser instrument. He will then use the laser to liquefy the fat cells. These liquefied fat cells are then sucked out through the cannula. Laser-assisted surgery provides the benefit of causing minimal bleeding since the laser cauterizes any tissue it encounters. Since bleeding will be minimal, so will bruising and swelling.
Expect the procedure itself to take two to three hours depending on the amount of volume that needs to be removed. SmartLipo is done under local anesthesia, so you will feel no pain and minimal discomfort. You should expect to feel some brief stinging and tugging at the skin during the procedure, but most of our patients report feeling very little discomfort overall.
Recovery
Unlike traditional liposuction under general anesthesia, your SmartLipo treatment will not require a hospital stay. Most patients are back at home within a few hours. Pain medication will be prescribed to aid your recovery. You can expect to see immediate results. However, your skin may take up to three months to adjust, and the final result may not be apparent for up to a year. Much of this will depend on the amount of volume that is removed and your general health.
If you live in the Hartford, Greenwich, or Waterbury, Connecticut area and would like to get rid of troublesome fat deposits with SmartLipo, please contact Dr. Foster today to arrange your complimentary consultation.
