In a prospective, double-blind, controlled study on 26 consecutive patients who
underwent suction lipectomy, the injection of epinephrine (1:250,000, 1:500,000,
or 1:1,000,000) was not found to decrease fluid/blood loss when compared with
saline injection or no injection at all. Since our study fails to support the
use of epinephrine to lessen fluid/blood loss during suction lipectomy, we have
abandoned its use in that procedure.
