Body contouring by non-invasive transdermal focused ultrasound
Moreno-Moraga J, Valero-Altés T, Riquelme AM, Isarria-Marcosy MI, de la Torre JR. Lasers Surg Med. 2007;39:315-323.

Surgical liposuction comes with risks many patients are unwilling to take, and therefore, there is a demand for non-surgical options that provide results without concerns for safety. The authors designed this study to examine how safe and effective the non-invasive ultrasound UltraShape device is for treating fat and creating more desirable contours without surgery. In the study, they treated 30 patients with UltraShape in the abdominal area, thighs, knees, or male breasts once per month for three months, and conducted a final follow-up one month after the final treatment. Their results showed a significant reduction in the thickness of fat in all patients, with no change in weight. The study authors conclude that focused ultrasound treatment with the UltraShape device is both safe and effective for reducing fat.
