Liposuction (also known as Lipoplasty) is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. It not only removes unwanted fat, but helps sculpt the body’s natural contour. This body contouring technique can also be used for many areas of the body including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, cheeks, chin, neck, thighs, upper arms, and waist and helps to create a more contoured, smoother appearance. It’s ideal for areas of the body that don’t respond well to diet and exercise.
Laser-assisted liposuction, known as SmartLipo, is another alternative liposuction technique. Deciding which type of liposuction technique is right for you, depends on your overall goals. Dr. Lin and Dr. Kohen-Cashi perform liposuction on an outpatient basis at North Shore Center for Plastic Surgery in Long Island, NY. The length of surgery depends on the number and size of the areas being treated and the amount of fat being removed. Surgery time is varies from one to four hours depending upon the number of areas treated. Patients can have either local or general anesthesia. During surgery, tiny incisions are made in the area(s) being treated and a cannula (a narrow, blunt-tipped tube) is inserted and fat cells are removed.
