Superficial Enhanced Fluid Fat Injection Corrects Volume Loss, Along with Improving Facial Skin Quality

Over the last 10 years, the fat grafting procedure and techniques have changed and evolved. Originally it was a procedure that was only used to simply restore volume and was done using thicker cannulas, with injections being done deeper in the tissue. Now, there are newer procedures that are producing results that not only provide volume, but are also improving skin quality overall.

According to data recently published in the professional publication Aesthetic Surgery Journal, fat that is administered with superficial enhanced fluid fat can reduce facial wrinkles, along with improving skin quality.

Researchers of the data call the technique SEFFI — superficial enhanced fluid fat injections. The technique uses a micro cannula to harvest “micro” fat. This fat actually contains adipocytes and stem cells, according to the study. This fat is then enhanced, including the addition of platelet-rich plasma, after which it is injected superficially, or on the surface of the skin.

During the research, 98 patients, with a mean age of 51 years, underwent SEFFI, which was performed concurrently with other procedures including minimal-incisions vertical endoscopic lift, neck lift, and primary or revision blepharoplasty (eyelid lift).

Two senior researchers rated the overall rates as excellent in 37 percent of the patients and good in 63 percent of the patients. It was also concluded that SEFFI is well tolerated with four patients experiencing minor complications.

Overall, this SEFFI procedure can fill in wrinkles of the face to produce a more youthful appearance. Additionally, it improves skin quality and elasticity, as well as providing a softer, plumper look and feel — all of which are qualities of youthful skin. These results are due to the stem cells and growth factors included in the SEFFI technique. And finally, the effects of this new technique can last for about a year.
