What is Water Assisted Liposuction?

Water assisted liposuction is another very popular method of liposuction. As with any other liposuction technique, water assisted liposuction will remove the fat deposits from beneath the skin to provide a smoother, more contoured figure. In addition, this type of liposuction has been shown to be very effective in battling lipedema, a condition that causes fluid buildup in the lower body.

How Water Assisted Liposuction Works

Water assisted liposuction, while similar to other lipo procedure, is a bit different. Rather than a laser method using laser energy to melt and dislodge fat cells, this type of liposuction uses a pressurized stream of saline solution to dislodge and remove the fat deposits. Rather than destroying the cells, water jet liposuction loosens the fat cells to allow gentler removal.

The Procedure

During a water jet assisted liposuction procedure, a tumescent fluid solution will be injected into the treatment area. This tumescent fluid is comprised of saline, medication, and a local anesthetic, and provides benefits such as lessening bleeding and pain-killing properties.

Once the anesthetic solution has been injected and it has taken effect, a cannula is inserted into the area. A saline solution is introduced, while the simultaneous suctioning of fat cells is performed. Any remaining fluid is removed after the fat is removed.

Benefits of Water Assisted Liposuction

The entire procedure is gentle and minimally invasive. Patients undergoing water assisted liposuction will experience very little swelling or bruising. Additional, the recovery time is very short, because using water causes less tissue trauma.

Other benefits of this type of procedure include no requirement for general anesthesia, which reduces both risks to the patient and overall coasts. Additionally, with the fluid management aspect of this type or procedure, the surgeon can have a more detailed assessment of the area during the entirety of the procedure to provide great results.

Another benefit of water assisted liposuction is that in addition to removing unwanted fat, it can also be used to restore volume to other body areas including the face, breasts and hands — areas that often lose volume due to age.
