There has been a rash of somewhat frightening news coming out about Botox being administered by unqualified individuals. Unfortunately, these incidents spotlight the need for patients to make sure they choose a fully qualified and experienced physician for any procedures of this type.

Botox Incidents in the News

In Hong Kong, a woman was arrested for her role in a syndicate that allegedly performed Botox, hyaluronic acid, and hormone injections in a hotel room in the city of Hung Hom.

The arrest came after police were alerted to the woman and her associates when they received reports the group was offering five-day beauty packages to wealthy women on Mainland China. These procedures were being performed in makeshift operating rooms in the hotel.

Undercover reporters discovered that people claiming to be doctors and medical staff had carried out injections involving Botox, hyaluronic acid and hormone and living cells in the hotel, as well as plastic surgery.

Closer to home, a Houston woman was recently arrested for the third time for giving Botox injections without a medical license. The woman was arrested along with her two daughters for performing these procedures at a cosmetic clinic.

There are many occurrences that are coming to light about either illegal or unsafe Botox procedures. Many may remember those “Botox parties” that were popular, where people would gather at a home to receive Botox injections that were often performed by unqualified individuals.

So, What Does this Mean to You?

No matter how convenient or inexpensive the Botox procedure may be, it is important to make sure that Botox, or any other similar procedure, be performed by a highly qualified physician.

Dr. Wright, medical director of the Laser Lipo and Vein Center says that people who undergo cut-rate Botox injections or are injected by unqualified people run the risk for serious complications. Additionally, even if complications are not experienced, the results may not be satisfactory.

It is important that you choose a physician who is qualified and experienced. These individuals will be certified by the proper medical boards, ensuring that they have the proper credentials and skills.

Dr. Wright stresses that if you want the best results, it is important to choose an experienced physician. Dr. Wright and his staff are happy to answer any questions you have about Botox or other injectables. Just give them a call to set up a complimentary consultation.
